Sermon wins binational competition

A sermon that was written and delivered by Joan Wiley to the Unitarian Fellowship of London, Ont., last October has won a binational award.

The sermon, “Celebrating the T in LGBTQ: one family’s sacred journey,” won the Interweave competition for sermons that focus on sexual orientation and gender identification. The contest is open to UU churches in North America.

“The unique voice and perspective that you wrote about spoke to everyone on the committee,” said one of the judges in a letter to Joan, a member of the Unitarian Congregation of Niagara.

Joan has been invited to deliver her sermon to the UUA General Assembly on June 27, 2009 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
