Religious Exploration
Mission Statement
Our mission is to create an environment in which children, youth and adults can explore the history, heritages, traditions and principles of Unitarian Universalism and various other spiritual and religious belief systems, and to foster personal growth, self esteem, appreciation of spiritual diversity and a sense of one's responsibility towards the world, through the exploration of relevant curricula, the freedom of open discussion and the opportunity for community involvement. Philosophy of Religious Exploration Our program is based on curricula from the Unitarian Universalist Association and other sources which reflect our principles, which stated here in children's language that each and every person is important
What Religious Exploration looks like at the UFL Children accompany their parents or guardians to the main Sunday Service at 10:45 am. Children participate in the opening words, lighting of the chalice, candles of joy and concern and the first hymn. Then, the children are called to the front to take part in the Moment of Wonder. The Moment of Wonder is a three to eight minute story or lesson where a member of the congregation or the minister speaks to the children about the main theme of the adult service. Children are invited to ask questions and participate as they are able. After the Moment of Wonder, the congregation sends the children off to classes with a song. Religious Exploration classes take place from approximately 11:00 to 11:45 am. Children are then served a nut free nutritious snack and supervised until the adult service ends around noon. Childcare is available for infants and children up to age four from 10:30 am until 12:30 pm. |
